How are points scored in F1? Race and sprint points

25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1: the points of the top ten in a race, the eight in the sprint and what happened to the fastest-lap point.

In 30 seconds

Summary

  • In a race the top ten score: 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1.
  • In the sprint the top eight score: from 8 points for the winner to 1 point for eighth.
  • The extra point for the fastest lap was given from 2019 to 2024 and no longer exists.
Step by step

Step by step

  1. Race: ten score

    Since 2010 the top ten score 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 points. From 11th place down, nothing is added.

  2. Sprint: eight score

The sprint winner gets 8 points, second 7, third 6, fourth 5, fifth 4, sixth 3, seventh 2 and eighth 1.

  3. The fastest lap no longer gives a point

Between 2019 and 2024 there was an extra point for the fastest lap if you finished in the top ten; F1 removed it. Some older guides still mention it.
